Kaw Point Historic Park + My Favorites

Penn Valley Park + My Favorites
Out of a rough neighborhood emerged what is today Penn Valley Park. This 176-acre (71 ha) area includes a fenced in area for dogs, several memorials, a lake and the Liberty Memorial Museum, among other areas and activities. The Powell Gardens is situated east of Kansas City on 915 acres of land. This botanical garden was formed in 1988. Inside there are trails to walk through, a fountain and memorial gardens for visitors to take in. Tours and educational programs are available year round. Swope Park was donated to the city in 1896 by Colonel Thomas Swope. Today it has been turned into a recreational and entertainment area with numerous parks, picnic areas, athletic fields and group pavilions. It is also home to the Kansas City Zoo, the Swope Memorial and Blue River golf courses, the Starlight Theatre and the Lakeside Nature Center.
