Arabia Steamboat Museum

The Arabia Steamboat was built in 1853, carrying cargo and passengers down the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Three years later it sank on voyage to Kansas City, filled with 222 tons of precious cargo. The boat was sucked into the mud at the bottom of the river and was not recovered until 1987 when an excavating team located it and was able to extract part of the ship and its shipment, displaying these findings at in the Arabia Steamboat Museum.

Santa Fe National Historic Trail

This historic trail served as a highway connecting Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the 19th century. Covering ground in New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, the trail was used by fur traders, adventurers, stagecoach lines and thousands of gold seekers. A number of historic sites are located along the trail, and there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Inside this complex are an arena, exhibit sites and a museum, which is open all year round. The museum features interactive displays, artifacts and various displays to tell the history behind this organization and behind the agriculture industry in Kansas City. Several events are held each year, including a rodeo, a horse show and a parade.

Kansas City Museum

The museum is housed in Corinthian Hall, a 50-room turn-of-the-century mansion located in Kansas City's historic Northeast neighborhood. With its marble floors, stained glass windows and interior detailing, Corinthian Hall is a graceful backdrop for the Museum's many exhibits. The permanent exhibits feature artifacts and audio/visual shows to interpret the history of the Kansas City metropolitan region from the time of the Osage Indians to the opening of the Hannibal Bridge in 1869.

Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio Historic Site

Thomas Hart Benton was a famous painter, sculptor, writer and lecturer who lived in Kansas City. After Benton's death in 1975, his studio and home because a national historic site. The building was preserved close to its original condition and can be viewed by tour.

Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center

Bruce R. Watkins was an activist who focused on the civil rights for African-Americans. The center named in his honor holds many resources for the community and promotes tolerance. Included inside is a library, a children's center, an auditorium, a gallery, an exhibit area and much more. An array of classes, events and performances are held here. The center is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm.

Shoal Creek Living History Museum

This historic area is set in a preserved village and has more than 20 buildings dating from 1807 to 1885. The structures include a log cabin, a brick mansion and a church. Various programs and events, like a Civil War reenactment, are held on this property, which is found in Kansas City's Hodge Park.

Black Archives of Mid-America

The Black Archives of Mid-American is home to an extensive collection of historical African-American items. Included in these are photographs, oral histories, various records and documents, artifacts and other pieces. The center is open 9am to 4:30pm from Monday to Friday. It is located in Kansas City's historical 18th and Vine district.
